Meze Panamá - Restaurante Griego

The verdict
Greek cooking in a good-looking room with a live saxophone, let down only by twenty minutes of trying to pay.
We had a seven o'clock reservation on a quiet night, two other tables occupied, and were seated straight away. Wine came in five minutes, the appetiser ten after that, the mains fifteen to twenty after the appetiser.
The food was good throughout. Then it took two waiters and about twenty minutes to get the bill, which is a strange way to end an otherwise easy evening.
Skip if
- You are in a hurry at the end. Getting the bill took two waiters and about twenty minutes.
- You are expecting a whole fish. The seabass comes as a fillet, and it wanted more rice alongside.
Would we go back? Yes, to work further through the menu.
The visit

Meze, after dark
A lit doorway off the street with a lantern either side. We had booked for seven and walked into a room with two other tables occupied and a saxophonist playing.

The room is the strong suit
White chairs, patterned tile and a wall of glass at the back. The atmosphere and decor are genuinely good, which made the wait for the bill at the end more irritating than it should have been.

Start with the Trilogy
Three dips and a plate of pita, and a good little warm-up before dinner. You choose between baguette and pita; there was not enough pita and we ordered more.

The seabass arrives as a fillet
Chris had been expecting a whole fish. It was good as it was, but it wanted more rice than it came with.

The garlic clams were the better main
Light and delicious, and the one Kristen was happiest with. If you are choosing between the two, choose this.
On the table
- Trilogy appetiser
- A good warm-up. Not enough pita with it, so we ordered more.
- Garlic clams
- Light and delicious. The better of the two mains.
- Seabass
- Good, but a fillet rather than a whole fish, and short on rice.
- A bottle of rose
- Four on the list. They were out of the one we wanted and their suggestion was good.
